Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns @ Descanso Gardens
When I was in Taiwan, there was an annual lantern festival I went to where there were a massive amount of lanterns lighting up an entire park. There were also huge lanterns in shapes of animals, people and cartoon characters displayed. It was amazing.
When Mr. V told me that we were going to a pumpkin version of this – Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns, I was pumped. Specifically, 5000 hand-carved illuminated Jack O’Lanterns.
When we first walked in, we were welcomed by booth where we could see a professional carver making amazing work like these (above).
From there on, we were blown away by the illuminated hand painted and hand carved jack o’lanterns. The carvings were super detailed and intricate. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
We ended our walk with these spooky pumpkin carved heads.
Overall, it was a great experience. We went on the last day in the evening and it wasn’t overly crowded. We had plenty of time to appreciate each piece. We also didn’t pay full price for it (there were discounts for different times). We paid $16 instead of the $28 full price. Parking was free. It took us about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete the tour.
The only thing I wished was that the bigger pieces be placed closer to us visitors. Some of the displays were just too far back.
My favorite piece is the one with yoda. What’s yours?
