Pre-Thanksgiving Sales, Black Friday, Cyber Monday… There is certainly no shortage of store marketing strategies trying to draw you (add your checkbook) in to stroll their aisles and webpages looking for that perfect gift for every friend, co-worker, family member, neighbor, kid’s teacher, and Secret Santa name.

Tired of the crowded mall and underwhelming gift ideas? Do things a little different this year. With some easy planning, you can spend less and give a lot more this holiday season. Take a look at these all-natural (yet still budget friendly) DIY bath products and pampering gift ideas that anyone would be happy to receive. With just 4 simple steps you’ll have your holiday gift list checked off in no time.

Soaking salts are simple to create and look so beautiful. Everyone could use an excuse to take a relaxing bath during the holiday season so pamper them with these easy DIY soaking salts.

What you will need:

  • Dead sea salt
  • Colored Brazilian or French clay (available at Bramble Berry)
  • Essential oils of your choice
  • Mason jar (for mixing)
  • Small plastic tubes or small jars
  1. To get started, measure out about one cup of dead sea salt into a clean, dry mason jar. Epsom salt will also work, but I prefer dead sea salt for its healing properties and amazing skin benefits. If you are having a hard time finding dead sea salt locally, Amazon carries several affordable options.
  1. Add about 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oils– lavender, vanilla, and peppermint are common favorites for the holiday season. Essential oils are becoming so popular even some grocery stores and Target locations sell them. Otherwise, Amazon is also a great source for any scent imaginable. Close the mason jar and shake well until the salts are evenly scented.
  1. Sprinkle 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of colored clay. Brambleberry.com sells a Brazilian clay variety pack to get a small amount of several color options. The clay is preferred for coloring because it keeps the natural composition of this gift, but in a pinch you can substitute the clay with 1/4 tsp glycerin mixed with a few drops of food coloring. Add your coloring choice into the salts and shake or stir until the color is well blended.

Package your salts into your desired container and add a gift tag or ribbon. That’s it! Simple yet gorgeous.

RELAXING BATH TEA

If you are searching for something more unique, expand on the soaking salts gift idea and make luxurious bath teas instead! It requires more ingredients, but will surely “wow” whoever you gift them to.

What you will need:

  • Variety of dried flowers
  • Rolled oats
  • Dead sea salt
  • Muslin bags
  • Mason jar (for mixing)
  • Gift tag

  1. Start by choosing your dried floral scents. Lavender is a standard base scent and pairs well with other flowers. Customize your blend to suit your taste. For this formulation I used dried lavender (top right), calendula (bottom right), chamomile (top left), and rose (bottom left). Mountainroseherbs.com and Brambleberry.com have nice selections of dried flowers. Tip: Only use dried flowers, not essential oils, as scent- essential oils stain the muslin bag.
  1. Add 1 tablespoon of each dried flower choice, rolled oats, and dead sea salt (again, epsom salt may be substituted) to a clean, dry mason jar. Shake gently until mostly combined.
  1. Fill each muslin bag no more than 2/3 full of mix to allow for the flowers and oats to expand when they come in contact with bath water.
  1. Tightly tie the top of the bag and add a holiday tag with instructions: Add whole bag of bath tea, unopened, to a warm bath and enjoy!

You’ll have so much fun making these DIY pamper holiday gifts that you just might want to make a few extra to enjoy yourself. Have a unique scent idea? Share it below!
